Chairperson of the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District
Cllr Sinead Guckian thanked her proposer and seconder and her colleagues for electing her to the position of Chairperson of the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District and said she looked forward to working with all members and the staff and she hoped that it would be a productive year for the district.
Speaking at the AGM Cllr Sinead Guckian said it was an honour to be elected as Chairperson and she would use her 16 years of experience to ensure that meetings were conducting in a fair and open manner. She paid tribute to the outgoing Chairperson Cllr Sean McGowan.
Cllr Guckian said that although the municipal districts are only in their second year of formation and even with the reduced budgets from the Labour/Fine Gael Government, members should now fully understand the responsibility and power which they held at municipal level.
“Members of the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District have the added responsibility of addressing the needs of the county town, Carrick on Shannon, as well as balancing the needs of all the towns, villages and rural areas of the district and or course at all times representing the views of the people who elected us.”
“we still face many challenges in this district and this county, we need to continue to fight against the reduction of funds from central government and the reduction andremoval of rural services. We have to strive to find innovative ways to stimulate economic activity, I look forward to facilitating this work over the next 12 months”.
