“Shadow of Ourselves” by Artist Tinka Bechert.
This exhibition is part of the Councils Spark Artist in Residence Programme
Over the last year Artist Tinka Bechert has been working with Priors PLM Medical, a precision engineering company based in Carrick on Shannon.
Spark is an Artist-in-Residence programme organised by Leitrim County Council Arts Office and Local Enterprise Office aimed at artists who are interested in working in new environments and businesses who are interested in collaborating with artists and promoting creativity within their organisations. Spark responds directly from within a company, offering a platform for collaboration appropriate to that context, providing alternatives to the current view, and making connections and linkages where they may not have existed previously.
-Prior PLM Medical offers Product Lifecycle Management solutions to the Medical Device and Pharmaceutical sectors from product research and design to the manufacturing and maintenance of the moulds required to produce their customer’s new products.
-Tinkas research during the Spark Residency focused on several engineering tools and techniques employed at Priors. She was particularly fascinated by the highly unusual application of the historic Schlieren imaging technique in which ‘shadows’ facilitate highly precise measurements. The shadowgraph technique dates back to the seventeenth century and has origins in optics and the development of telescopic lenses. The use of shadowgraph processes at Priors makes visible microscopic details, such as thermal differences, that are generally invisible to the human eye.
The exhibition will remain open to the public from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm on Saturday 1st April and from Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th April. For further information, see www.leitrimarts.ie.
