Social Farming Network

July 25, 2017/in News /by Sinead
Met with this great Leitrim man (with a Meath connection) at the launch of
the Social Farming Network and Model Projects in Leitrim today.Agriculture Minister Michael Creed was also in Gortletteragh to launch the project, on Michael Heslin’s Farm.
Social Farming is the practice of offering activity on family farms as a form of social support service.

The concept of social farming is giving people, who are availing of a range of health service supports, the opportunity to participate in farming or horticulture activities in their local area. It helps participants to build self-esteem, confidence and improve their health and well-being. The testimonies from participants and their families was enlightening..

Colm ORourke was one of the speakers who outlined the benefits for participants, from the experience of participating in social farming project.
